Contractor SEO / Marketing / Advertising / Websites / Denver Colorado

Contractors and home Improvement businesses as a group have probably been hit harder than any other segment of the economy in the last three years. Service professionals like plumbers, electricians, and HVAC companies have turned to Internet marketing, and advertising, and are now pulling away from print Medias like Newspapers, and the Yellow pages, in favor of Internet marketing. The reason we’re talking about this today is because many businesses are breaking some marketing and advertising rules that have been around forever and the rules in many cases still apply even when using the Internet.

The clear winner is the Internet when it comes to making sure your business stays out in front in today’s crowded and noisy marketplace. Never before has it been as fast and easy to let your prospects know about current specials, and any other information that will enhance your business in your market, quickly and affordably. That’s right we said affordable!

Google has made it extremely easy to track how, when, and where, your prospects are looking for you with Google analytics and all their other programs. Check them out if you haven’t and put them to work for you today. Finding the right words and phrases to use in articles and titles is no longer a mystery.

You really don’t have to guess what works and doesn’t work when it comes to connecting and selling to your prospects. You do have to spend some time with a great website developer and build a website that looks great and communicates your message quickly and effectively. Here are a few things to keep in mind.

Your business or your product is not the hero; the hero is your prospect, and you need to tell your prospect as quickly as possible what your promise is, or whatever it is you’re going to do to improve their life or business. While we’re on the subject try asking your prospect a question that has at least 3 benefits for them in the question. This is and has always been the best way to get anyone’s attention. Ask them a question about them.
For example: if we guarantee to bring your business huge amounts of traffic to your website, increase your sales, make your business a household name in Denver, and cut the cost of your advertising budget by at least 40%; would that be helpful to your business right now?

Asking questions always works better than grandiose declarative statements that usually say more about you, and your business and how great you are! The prospect doesn’t care about you; they care about what you can do for them. This may seem like “advertising 101” but there are many business owners that think the rules change when you’re using the Internet, and they haven’t.

If you haven't worked on your website in awhile spend some time on Keywords and use them in your titles and your articles. These are the words your prospects will use when searching for your business on the Internet. Google has some great tools for your business to help you find the best words (keywords) and phrases for you to attract new customers, and they’re free.
For example: plumbing contractor gets 33,100 hits a month, Plumbing Service gets 40,500 hits a month, and Plumber contractor gets 1,000 hits a month, not too hard to figure which words and phrases will work for your plumbing business, thank you Google!

Link building, link bait, internal linking, Meta tags, etc, are great subjects that you should discuss with the web developer you choose to build your website. You should remember that web developers are not marketers! We love to say “They couldn’t sell Beer on a troop ship.” Get involved with your website; you know what sells and what doesn’t and you also know just the right call to action and at what point it should occur.

We have kept this article simple but websites that work well are not simple and require a lot of work on your part and the web developer.
