Slippery Concrete Floors Denver

Slippery Concrete Floors Denver
Call Bob Lewis at 303.330.5585

Slippery Concrete Floors: we all love the look of beautiful high gloss floors and we’ve done quite a few of them, but here’s the catch; don’t try and make your exterior concrete shiny with multiple coats of sealer.

If you do, you or someone you’ve invited over to your home is going to slip and fall! It’s just a matter of time. You’ve probably seen plenty of wet driveways and walkways in movies and exterior pictures of houses in magazines, because they make the pictures prettier, but they are Slippery.

Here some great advice, don’t ask your concrete contractor to give your concrete the wet look, because if you’ll look around you, rocks and stones don’t glow in nature and neither should your landscaping.

Do ask your concrete contractor to use a product called “Sharks Tooth”, it can be added to the concrete sealer and its invisible and it acts like a thin coat of sand on your exterior concrete and will keep you from slipping when the concrete is wet.

Interior shiny stained concrete floors are beautiful inside your home and the concrete is no more slippery than any other floor you would install inside your home. If you have any other questions please feel free to call Bob Lewis at Handybears at 303.330.5585 and he’ll gladly tell you how to solve any other problems you have with slippery shiny concrete floors.

How much maintenance does stamped concrete need?

Stamped Concrete Maintenance in Denver
Call Bob Lewis at 303.330.5585

How much maintenance does stamped concrete need? We were recently asked this question, after we did our article on stamped concrete driveways. Here is all the information you’ll need to maintain your stamped concrete in perfect condition. We’re going to ask our Handybears pictured above to answer your question. They’re experts when it comes to stamped concrete and Home Improvements!

Stamped concrete is extremely durable and requires very little maintenance. Here are a few tips that will keep your stamped concrete looking as beautiful as the day it was installed, for years to come.

Stamped concrete maintenance will involve, resealing and cleaning the stamped concrete with occasional repairs for areas damaged by snow plowing and cars that leak oil and all the other things that can stain concrete.

1. Re-sealing Stamped Concrete: If stamped concrete is sealed correctly when it’s installed you can easily go 5 years or longer between resealing stamped concrete. From time to time you may get the urge, to make the stamped concrete look like new again, which can easily be accomplished by resealing it.

2. Resealing stamped concrete correctly is extremely important, so when possible have the same Stamped Concrete Contractor that installed your stamped concrete reseal it for you when the time comes; here’s why…

A. If you have damaged areas of stamped concrete that need to be touched up, the contractor that installed it will know exactly which color to use.

NOTE: We also highly recommend that homeowners get samples of the color hardener (the base color of the stamped concrete) as well as the release powder (the accent color used on the stamped concrete) to keep for repairs in the future.

NOTE: Make sure you get copies of the color charts for the manufacturer of the color hardeners and release colors you chose for your stamped concrete and get at least a gallon size sample of each, which should be more than enough for small repairs.

3. Make sure you meet with the Stamped Concrete contractor that will reseal your stamped concrete and let him know your preferences when it comes to how much you want your stamped concrete to shine (the wet look). We always tell people to use a matt finish because the stamped concrete will look more natural. Most of the stones or bricks you’ll be simulating with stamped concrete.

4. Make sure you know the name and type of sealer that was used to seal your stamped concrete. There are solvent and water based sealers used on stamped concrete and you can’t nix them or you’ll have a real mess.

5. Never ever use any sealers with silicone in them like Thompsons Water Sealer. If you do nothing will ever bond to your stamped concrete again. This is a very common mistake made by well meaning homeowners and it will wreck the stamped concrete. If you’ve done this there is no cure! You waste every penny you spend trying to correct this error.

6. Don’t get carried away with too much sealer to try and make the stamped concrete have a wet. This is not sustainable and the sealer will begin to peal and flake off over time and it will never look good again.

7. Don’t use salt on stamped concrete. If you need something to make the stamped concrete less slippery in the winter, use clean sand.

8. If you drip oil on the stamped concrete; immediately wash it wish soap and water. In most cases this is all you’ll need to do.

9. You can pressure wash stamped concrete, but don’t uses more than a thousand PSI and don’t bear down on the concrete with the tip of the pressure cleaner.

10. Stamped concrete crack repair is actually easier than regular broom finished concrete. because you can use the color hardener with a small amount of the release to fill in the cracks and the repair doesn’t stand out the way it does on regular concrete, because there are lines from the patterns and different shades to mask the crack repair.

Here’s the bottom line: stamped concrete was a great choice, it’s the most cost effective decorative surface available and it will last forever if you’ll follow these guidelines. If you have any questions Call Bob Lewis at Handybears in Denver at 303.330.5585 and we’ll give you any information you need or we’ll send someone to look at your stamped concrete.

Wood Fence Denver

Wood Fence Denver / Call Bob Lewis now at 303.330.5585 to Install a Wood Fence in Denver

Wood Fence Denver

The Denver Fence Companies at abc123.com and the Handybears have already installed thousands of wood, chain link and Vinyl fences all over the Denver Metro Area and we’re going to give you some information about each of these popular fences so you can decide for yourself what the right fence for your home is.

The cost of Wood fences in Denver for residential installations is the main reason they're still the most common fence installed in Denver, and Western red cedar is the best choice of wood for a Wood fence in Denver, you’ll be able to make an informed decision about Chain Link and Vinyl fences as well.

We're going to tell you about the different types of wood fence and the different components you’ll need to build or repair wood fences will be discussed here today.

Wood fences: offer the most privacy and safety for your children and pets and from the wind storms we get so often in Denver. Wood privacy fences are usually 6 feet tall. The shadow box pattern is the most installed wood fence in Denver.

Split rail fence is used on farms and is made of cedar wood. Split rail fences are available in square, round and split rails with decorative post caps.

Wood fence post are best set in concrete with our wind storms and expansive soils. Ask your contractor and they’ll tell you what’s best or required by the Building Dept in your area, but once again we always recommend fence post set in concrete.

Wood fences are best installed at least 4 inches inside your property line, or in the same place as the fence you’re replacing.

Repairing wood fences is easily done and matching wood or hardware on your homes wood gate post or gate hardware can be found at any number of wood fence suppliers. Wood fences don’t need to be replaced just because there are a few sections of fence damaged or some loose hardware on the fence.

Repair fence post: fence post can become loose over time. If your fences posts are rotten, you can repair them with 2x4 wood splints. A Handyman of fence builder in Denver can simply drill holes in two places on the fence and use pressure treated 2x4’s or cedar to bolster the fence. If a fence post is broken at ground level you’ll need to replace the fence post which involves digging a new post hole and placing a new wood post in concrete.

Wood fence gate repair: if the gates on your wood fence are hard to close make sure they’re not bent; if they are we’ll replace the existing hinge with a larger one. If there are screws loose screws we can fill the old holes with wood dowels glued in place, and drill where the old holes used to be with new holes and use larger galvanized screws that will hold the gate in place.

Replace wood fence sections: replacing sections of wood fence is usually the easiest way to fix a broken or damaged section of your wood fence, or we’ll repair small breaks in wood fence panels with a new wood panel that will match your existing fence.

Wood Fence estimates are free and will always need an onsite inspection because there are so many variables with neighboring houses and elevation changes in Denver.

Wood fences can cost an additional 5% to 10% for material and installation costs for complex or unusual fence installations.

Wood fence cost in Denver does not include removing and disposing of existing fences or any extraordinary things like grading your yard.

Wood fence estimates include labor for post hole digging, post concrete anchoring, fencing materials and supplies required to install a 6 foot fence.

When getting estimates on wood fences make sure all the Fence Builders are all bidding the same type of fence and the same description of work.

Garbage Disposal Denver

Garbage Disposal Denver / Call Bob Lewis now at 303.330.5585 for Garbage Disposals in Denver

Garbage disposal replace or repair is the perfect job for a Handyman and you’ll save money because you really don’t need to hire a Licensed Plumber to repair a garbage disposal. We'll tell you how to fix your garbage disposal yourself and we’ll tell you how to keep them running well.

Here are some things you should know about your garbage disposal and a few tips to help you with minor problems that can occur with your disposal at anytime.

Most garbage disposals use around ¾ horsepower electric motor with extremely sharp metal slots that uses centrifugal force to push food waste to a shredder ring which forces the waste through the shredder on the garbage disposal.

Installing a garbage disposal should only be done by someone experienced with both plumbing and electricity, because installing and repairing a garbage disposal require an electrical hook-up that meets code and operates safely.

At Handybears we often find that disposals have been installed or repaired incorrectly. The next problem would be lack of maintenance, and then garbage disposals that don’t have enough power supply to the disposal which is very hard on the electric motor.

A good size electric motor for residential garbage disposals is around ¾ horsepower, preferably made with stainless steel. A good garbage disposal should have an auto-reverse function for those times when it gets locked up. This will save you having to get under the sink with a hex wrench when this happens.

If your garbage disposal has no power: inspect the red reset button on the bottom of the disposal; if it's popped out; push it back in and turn the disposal on. If this doesn't work, give it a few minutes and try it again. If this doesn’t work you may need to call a handyman.

If your garbage disposal becomes jammed, use the reverse function on your garbage disposal or the look at the bottom of the disposal where you can use an Allen wrench to turn the plate in the disposal; this will fix most jams. If it won’t work, carefully turn off the power, preferably at the circuit breaker and using a broom handle to move the disposal plate back and forth to loosen it up.

Smells coming from your disposal are not uncommon: to help with this, whenever you use your garbage disposal, use a strong stream of water, and leave the water running and use some dish soap in the disposal for a few seconds each time and you'll stop this problem before it gets started. You can also grind 3 to 4 cups of ice with a cup of vinegar through your disposal at least once a week to help with odors and keep the blades sharp. Grinding the skins of citrus fruits works well too.

Here’s some do’s and don’ts that will keep your disposal running smooth and give you years of worry free service:

Foods like celery stalks, corn husks, will get tangled in the disposal and make the machine work harder and slower which puts a strain on the motor and doesn’t allow the food to get ground up correctly.

Food that is hard to grind like bones and some skins and pastas and rice will gum up the disposal over time and will cause the disposal to work slower and harder, not to mention not do a good job of liquefying anything after a time.

Never put Paper, metal, plastic or cigarette butts, in your garbage disposal, ever!

Vinegar is very good: Freeze some vinegar in an ice cube tray and use your disposal as a blender. This helps to eliminate bacteria which can cause odor.

Fat and Oil will build up in your garbage disposal and will eventually clog your drains and pipes and they will smell really bed over time as well.

What size disposal should I get?

At Handybears we recommend:

1. A 1/2 horse power garbage disposal for one or two people to use and it is usually less expensive.
2. A 3/4 horse power garbage disposer is what we recommend for single family homes with a few children.
3. A 1 horsepower garbage disposer if you have a large family or entertain a lot. In this case you’re better off with too much power rather than not enough.
4. Commercial garbage disposers for restaurants, schools, etc, that needs quite a bit of power in an ongoing basis.

Repair Clogged Drains Denver

 Repair Clogged Drains Denver

Repairing Clogged Drains in Denver are one of the most common calls we get here at Handybears, so we’re going to give you some more suggestions about how to avoid drain problems and how to fix them when they do occur.

Chemical drain cleaners are okay for some clogged drains but they contain chemicals that you would not want to get on your skin and these same chemicals can ruin a septic system, if that’s what you’re using at your home. Make sure you follow the directions carefully and always make sure to flush your plumbing pipes well after you’re done using a chemical drain cleaner. We would like to day right here that there are mechanical drain cleaning methods that are more effective and they won’t damage your existing plumbing or your skin.

Before you can unclog your drain, you must find out where the drain is clogged. In most cases the clogged drain is confined to just one area like your shower, toilet or a kitchen sink, which makes it very easy because this is one isolated area and in the case of the clogged kitchen sink there’s only one (trap) the (S) or (P) shaped PVC pipe right underneath the sink. If the problem is more than one drain then you probably have a problem with your Main Drain line, while more of a problem, is still within the skill set of most homeowners to unclog.

Most clogged drains are because the strainer in your sink or bathtub has become stopped up from hair and many other thing that are caught by the strainer and the water can’t drain fast enough anymore, so the sink or shower drain backup. Removing the strainer should be the first thing you check by simply removing the screws holding the strainer on and gently prying the strainer up, with a small screwdriver and remove anything that has collected around the strainer.

Stoppers should be cleaned often, because hair easily twists around the base of the stopper, which is what it’s supposed to do. Most stoppers can be removed by turning them with your fingers or you need to unscrew the small rod connected to the opener, under the base of the sink. Always make sure to pad pliers or any other tool you use with a piece of cloth so you won't damage the chrome finish.

A Toilet plunger is one of the easiest and best tools for unclogging drains and will usually clear away any blockage that’s close to the main drain.

Here are a few toilet plunger tips:

Block working on your toilet stuff some wet rags into the overflow holes in any nearby sinks.

Make sure there are 2 or 3 inches of water over the drain holes nearby. This water will force any obstructions out of the way and will also let allow you to see when you’ve pushed the clog out.

This is a great trick: Always place some petroleum jelly on the rim of the plunger. The petroleum jelly will create a tighter seal and more suction. Move the plunger up and down with some force a few times and then stop to see if water will drain from the sink. If the drain is still sluggish, try the plunger again. If it’s clear, run hot water to wash away any remaining debris.

If the plunger won't clear the clog, you'll have to clean the trap under the sink, you’ll need a bucket in to catch waste water while you’re trying to unclog the sink. If there’s no clean-out plug, loosen the two couplings to remove the trap. If you have chrome pipe fittings, once again you'll need to pad any tools to protect the finish and then hold the trap over the bucket and use a coat hanger or bottle brush to loosen debris in the trap and then wash the trap with hot water and a cleanser.

Sewer snakes, ah yes the trusty old sewer snake is what you’ll need if the blockage is deeper into the sink's drain or the main drain. After you’ve removed the trap, insert the snake into the sinks drain line and push until you feel resistance, the snake is probably against the clog; now try and hook the clog by moving the sewer snake's handle clockwise. When the debris is solidly hooked, twist and push the clog back and forth until you break up the clog and then flush the pipe with cold water.

Now carefully reassemble the trap making sure you reseal the threads using a pipe joint compound or Teflon tape. Now run the water to make sure the clog is flushed completely and the trap is not leaking where you reconnected it.

If more than one sink, bathtub or toilet is clogged, your problem is probably the main drain.

You’ll need to locate the clean-out plugs on the large drain pipes. You’ll usually find these on the vertical pipes in your basement or crawl space or in a garage or pantry closet. In a few cases the clean out plug may be located on a horizontal pipe.

After you locate the clean out plug, remove the fitting and make sure you have a waste bucket under the cleanout when you’re opening the drain plug. Now use a plumber's snake to find and loosen any clogs and in some cases you can use water under pressure to help loosen any clogs.

Okay, you’ve have your clogged pipes and drains under control in your home. We’d like to give you some tips to keep them that way…

In your kitchen: Pour excess grease into containers and throw them in the garbage and grease is also very hard on septic systems.

Always run plenty of cold water when you’re using your garbage disposal to flush food particles down and through the drains.

Never throw coffee grounds in your sink.

Once a week: Pour some boiling water in the sink to melt away fat or grease.

In your Bathroom: clean the pop-up stoppers every day if you use your kitchen often.

Don’t pour chemicals like paint thinner down your drain and dumping acid down your septic tank system is against the law.

Products claiming to maintain your septic system by using enzymes to attack grease really don’t work and may kill the bacteria needed to keep your system running well.

Thanks for stopping by and the Handybears will keep answer your questions. If you have any more questions call Bob Lewis anytime at 303.330.5585.

WATER HEATER INSTALLATION IN DENVER

Call Bob Lewis at 303.330.5585 for Water Heaters
You'll love the Price and the service!

Water heater installation in Denver will most often involve replacing your existing water heater with the same unit you have now, but there are some important considerations before you have a new water heater installed. This is a good time to convert to gas if you're still using an electric water heater, and if you do this is definitely a job for a professional plumber.

Your homes hot water Heater will  use about 15% of the energy each month: We can Install almost any Brand of water heater in your home. The least expensive hot water heaters are electric, but gas water heaters in Denver are a great choice.

Gas water heaters will cost more than an electric water heater, but the average cost to operate a gas water heater in the average home is $350.00 a year and the average electric water heaters cost about $500.00 a year, so you can rerecover the cost in a few years with the lower cost of Gas water heaters.

1st Hour Rating on hot water heaters tells you how much hot water a water heater will  provide in gallons of usable hot water by combining the amount of usable hot water stored in the tank, plus the gallons of usable hot water generated by the water heater in one hour of operation. For Exaple: A 40-gallon natural gas water heater that stores 31 gallons of usable hot water and can deliver 41 gallons of usable hot water in the first hour, so this water heaters 1st Hour Rating is 72 gallons.

One option to consider would be to increase your water heaters holding capacity if your family is growing, and we'll tell you if there are some tax breaks for using an energy efficient water heater in your home.

Make sure to check your hot water heaters tank capacity, insulation R-value, as well as the wattage capacity and voltage of the heating elements if you’re going to keep using an electric water heater.

40 to 50 gallon storage tanks on a water heater is usually enough for most families, and the (recovery rate) or the gallons of water heater used by your water heater in an hour is an important consideration. The  existing space you have will determine whether or not you can insatll install a larger water heater.

Disposing of your old hot water heater, when won't be a problem because whenever we install a new water heater, we'll dispose of your old water heater.

Water leak detection Denver is a vital dervice because pipe leaks in walls, toilets, just to name a few, can be big problem for homeowners in Denver. Here's why: Frozen pipes in walls and the ground can cause pipes to move and that's all that's needed to cause a pipe joint leak in a sewer line, or a pipe leak in concrete slabs which are hard to find.

The damage from leaks in homes in Denver every year is in the millions, and there's health issues caused by mold and mildew in walls and other areas of the home whenever leaks in your home remain undetected.

Leak Detection Denver has the newest Leak Detection Equipment in Denver. We can find leaks behind walls, basement walls and floors, landscaping, sewer systems, and slab leaks.

YIKES!! A small leak with medium pressure will leak over 2000 gallons of water in a single day. A leaking can easily loose over 50,000 gallons of water in a month. Hose bibs outside your home can easily lose over 2000 gallons in a single year.

An undetected leak inside your home: is responcible for homeowners having to replace entire rooms because of mold on the interior of walls, not to mention the structural damage caused by the dirt that's washed away under your homes foundation.

Here's some warning signs for leaks: bad smells coming from walls and floors, and the drains in kitchens and bathrooms. Wet spots on walls and floors requires immediate attention. You can turn off all the water in your house and watch your water meter for 30 minutes. Any water usage is sign you have a leak.

Sewer gas Denver

Sewer gas usually comes from plumbing fixtures traps that have dried out, or the water seal in the trap is broken. When toilets are not used for long periods of time the water will evaporate from toilets and the traps below floor drains.

Drain lines and vent pipes that are cracked are another source of sewer gas leaks. If the drain line is cracked, you'll need a plumber with special equipment to locate the leak.

Sewer gas that is leaking will also sucked into the plumbing return air system vents, and spread through the house by the air handler in your furnace. Plumbers use machines that create artificial smoke to identify the leaks that won't create any odors or stain any walls in your house.

The smoke machine is attached to the plumbing drain and will block off the drain pipe leading to the sewer and cap on roof vent pipes and when the smoke begins, it pressurizes the plumbing system. If you have cracked pipes or loose fittings, the smoke will seep out before it would come up through the fixture trap filled with water.

Sewer gas problems are also caused by plumbing vent pipes that have become clogged, because debris can clog vent pipes, and the air needed by the system will get sucked into the pipes through a fixture inside your house, and sewer gas will enter your house through the dry fixture trap.

Sewer gas problems are best left to an experieced plumber because there are so many different causes for gas smells in your home, Call Bob Lewis at 303.330.5585 at Denver Plumbing and we’ll give you a free inspection to find the cause of the gas smells in your home.

DENVER DRAIN CLEANING

DENVER DRAIN CLEANING

If your Kitchens drain is slow then it's most likely being caused by, detergent, grease or soap that has built up over time in your kitchens drain pipes and has caused your drain to become slow or even blocked in some cases. When this happens a Denver Plumber can use a drain cleaning cable to clear out or clean your drains to remove the deposits that have built up in your drains and they'll work just like new.

When your shower or bathtub drainpipes become clogged, it's usually from the buildup of hair and soap over time. If you’re experiencing slow draining or standing water in your bathrooms tub or shower, your bathroom drain is becoming clogged and will most likely become blocked soon. You can try and remove any hair or soap from the trap in the drain, but If this doesn't work then you'll need a plumber to unclog your drains.

If the sink in your bathroom is the problem: toothpaste, soap, or hair are most likely the cause. Once again you can try and unclog the sink. If this doesn’t work you’ll need to have a plumber clean the drains with special equipment.

Toilet drains catch everything imaginable; we've all heard the stories. We can clean your toilets drain fast with an auger and cable that spins as it goes through your drain.

Floor drains on patios, basements, garages and laundry rooms, have traps that fill with water to keep odors and sewer gas from getting into your home. If you start smelling gas or other odors in your house, you'll need to have your drains cleaned before they back up into your home.

The main sewer line on your home is the largest drain because all of your homes drains lead to the main sewer line under your home that connects to the city sewer or your septic tank. Tree roots are a common problem when it comes to the main drain, and when it's clogged or  slowly, your toilets and drains in your house will backup, and you may need an emergency visit from a plumber which can be expensive in the middle of the night. Licenced plumbers in Denver will use a video camera to inspect your homes main drains to make sure they’re not damaged and then they can be cleaned and made to work like new.

Here are a few things you can try before you call a plumber: Carefully pour boiling water down the drain in your kitchen which may melt grease that could be blocking your drain.

If the drain in your bathroom is the problem: it’s usually hair and dental floss that’s built up in the drain, so you can try and pull this away carefully.

When using a plunger in your kitchen or bathroom with double sinks, or a side by side sink that's clogged, be sure to place a rag over the drain on the other sink to avert the pressure away from the drain that’s clogged. You should also make sure you fill the water in   the sink above the plunger so water, not air is pushing against what is clogging the drain.

If more than one drain is clogged, the problem is most likely beyond the sink trap and a chemical drain cleaner can't reach it. In this case you’ll need a snake or an auger with a corkscrew tipped cable to push through your blocked drain. You'll also need to unscrew and remove the J-shaped trap under the sink to gain access to your drain pipe, so you'll want to use a something to catch water or whatever is causing your problem.

If none of these quick fixes work, the clog is most likely in your main drain, and you’ll need a drain-cleaning service to go farther into the drain. Plumbers will have the equipment to clean main sewer blockages and the manpower to take care of your drain problems quickly.

Video Sewer Inspections are performed with small portable color video cameras on fiber glass push rods that run down sewer or drain lines and inspect the pipes. This will show any grease buildup, roots, damaged pipes, and anything else blocking your drains or  pipes. The video camera has a built-in transmitter, so we can locate the exact position of any problems.

High Pressure Jetting is used when heavy grease, dirt, or sand gets into cracked or broken lines. Jetting equipment allows us to clean as much as 500 feet and will effectively clean and remove any sludge and debris from your homes drain lines.

Water Heaters Tips For Denver

Here are some tips to extend the life of your hot water heater and save you some money right now. If you have any questions send them to [email protected] and Bob Lewis will answer them for you right away.

Drain the tank on your water once a year and you'll remove sediment that's built up in the bottom of the water heaters tank. You should have a plumber in Denver drain the water heater for you if possible because water in the water heater, and electricity or Gas can be dangerous so be very careful here.

Set the thermostat on the water heater to a middle range temperature and you'll save money every month because most people are using excess cool water to overcome water from the water heater that's too hot!

Install a water heater insulation jacket on your water heater and your water will stay heated longer, and save you at least 30% of the cost to heat water and you'll add years of service to your hot water heater.

Consider a Tankless water heater; they'll provide hot water on demand and Tankless water heaters can be electric or gas and they'll save you 10 to 20 % on the cost to heat water in your home.

Electric water heaters cost more to operate than gas water heaters and gas water heaters are always more economical. Install a gas water heater and you'll start saving money every day on your power bill.

Insulate your hot water pipes because you're losing money when the water is turned off and turned on again because water is wasted waiting for the hot water to reach the faucet again.

The average life of a water heater is 8 to 10 years, but this can be extended by doing simple things like draining the sediment that builds up in the bottom of the water heaters tank, and insulating water lines as mentioned above will add years of service to a water heater.

Self-cleaning water heaters have a dip tube fitting at the bottom of the water heaters tank that causes a spiraling effect on water entering the tank of the water heater, and this loosens the sediment from the bottom of the hot water heaters tank, and increases the efficiency of the water heater and increases the life of the glass lining in the tank.

Remember this in Denver during the winter; the water is much colder coming into the house, and this causes the hot water in the water heaters tank to cool faster, and this will cause a lack of performance of the water heater. A Tankless water heater alleviates this problem in our cold climate.
